What are we studying?

  • Homework: Week of May 20th - Our Student Led Conferences will be May 22nd at 8:30 am. Please let me know if an adult cannot be here for your child so I can make sure to have another adult from our building available. We will decorate our BLUE shirts on Friday for Third Grade Field Games on Tuesday (last day of school). Look for ice cream permission slip in Tuesday folders.
  • Writing- We are busy choosing pieces for our showcase portfolios and reflecting on our growth in third grade.
  • Reading - Mrs. Forseth is giving us free time to do extended reading into one of the genres we have studied in depth this year.
  • MATH- We've mastered Third Grade content, so Mrs. Forseth is giving us a peek into what we will learn next year in fourth grade!

Fun Tips for Reading at Home!

I know how hard it is to fit reading into your routine at home. If your house is as busy as ours, it seems that all we have time to do when we get home is eat and shower, and then it is time for bed! I just read an article in a magazine, "Ladies Home Journal", that had some pretty good ideas for reading time at home! Try one of these ideas and then make a comment to let me know how it worked. Maybe you have some fun reading ideas of your own! Just remember to leave your initials only, we never put our names on the internet.

* Go with a theme - even if your family has a range or reading levels, everyone can find a "just-right" book for a general theme. Try general topics like animal-themed stories or mysteries. Then, help everyone find a book to read at his own pace (Mrs. Blake and the Oldham County Public Librarians can help you, too). You and your family can talk about your books at dinner time!

* Make it fun - Get creative about when and where you read at home! Read outside on a picnic blanket while mom or dad is making dinner. Pile some pillows in a corner or closet and make a cozy reading spot.

* Bring it to life - Read your book out loud and practice making your voice sound different for the different characters in the book. This is especially fun if you are reading the same book with someone else! One of you could read the narration and the other could read just the dialogue, then take turns on the next page.

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

I am anxious to meet all of you and start a new school year. Summer seems to have flown by this year, but as we inch closer to the first day of school, I am finding myself looking forward to getting back into the routine. Speaking of routines, what routines do you follow on school days and nights? Remember when posting on the blog, only use your initials. Never post your name on the internet. See you soon!
