Fourth graders at Centerfield have begun an exciting academic competition this week. It's our version of the Run for the Roses, but instead of chasing horses - we're chasing knowledge!
We're spiraling through the fourth grade curriculum to enrich and extend our knowledge in math, reading, and science. Classes rotate to all fourth grade teachers for activities in different subject areas. At the end of the activities, teachers present students with an exit question. If 80% or more of the class answers the question correctly, the class moves forward one space on our racetrack.
This competition seems to be helping us keep our stamina high as we close in on the end of the year. I'm having a lot of fun with it and I hope you are, too! Add your comment to this post to let me know what you think about WIN, PLACE, SHOW......WHAT YOU KNOW!

Raptors!!!!!!!!!

We had a wonderful visit to our classroom by Raptor Rehab of Kentucky this week! We learned so much about these amazing birds and their many adaptations. Respond to this post by telling me: 1) the bird that had your favorite adaptation 2) the structure 3) the function 4) how that bird's life might be different without that adaptation.
Visit the website for Raptor Rehab of KY to learn more about their amazing work! http://www.raptorrehab.org/new/frameset.htm

Have Fun With Writing!
I thought you'd like to have some fun showing off your writing skills on the Weekly Reader website this week. Go to www.weeklyreader.com and check out all they have to offer. I especially liked the "Weekly Writer" section. The Weekly Writer is an activity where a published author and kids work together to create a collaborative story. Check out some of the past stories, they turned out really neat! Have fun and make sure you tell me about what you found.

Do Adults Write?
Quick! - ask an adult at home about his or her writing! Respond to this post telling me 1. One thing your adult has to write, 2. Who is your adult's audience and 3. What is your adult's purpose.
Here is my example:
My adult is Mr. F.
1. He has to write equipment proposals for work.
2. His audience is a group of adults who are in charge of all of the money at his work.
3. His purpose for writing is to persuade those adults to buy him the equipment he needs.

Let's make it happen!
What is the one thing you want to improve before the end of the year? It must be school related. Everyone needs to post something specific, but you do not have to put your initials on your answer.
